“Good points: very comfortable bed, roomy, overall well presented. Breakfast experience fine. Housekeeping staff receptive/pleasant Needs attention: off putting screen at reception. Female receptionist slow to interact. Aware that this was our first visit,she did not explain that the room fob operated the lift and to exit the car park to press the button. Both situations caused unnecessary confusion as we lounged about until another guest operated the lift. In the car park we were scrambling to get coins to operate the barrier. She failed to advise to ring the doorbell to gain entry. On returning late, the bar door was locked. After a time a security guard came and showed us the doorbell. The staff were slow opening the door; this was after a teen disco which may explain the delay. Next morning the male receptionist seemed more receptive. He asked had we used the car park and he made us aware of the button to lift the barrier. I would recommend the Kilford Arms to others, but I would advise on the above situation. The above informed my generous 4 rating, as the highlighted issues can be overcome.”

We had our evening meal in the main bar/ lounge and it was quite nice. Out of 10 I would rate our meal 6.5. The bedroom was very basic and in need of updating. Would we go back - No. Would we recommend the hotel - No.”

Food is excellent and the service was faultless. The Hotel may be a bit Dated but this is more than compensated for with the quality of service and value for money.”

We stay there a lot and look forward to the breakfast but this time we found the breakfast just o.k. there was a big crowd for the breakfast but this was not the problem the scrambled eggs were awful and they are usually nice but there seemed to be a taste of fish off them for some reason also a lot of the breakfast was cold normally the breakfast is lovely and always hot, but we still enjoyed our stay.”

“My goodness , this must be the most depressing hotel in Ireland . No welcome from reception , staff all roaming around frowning and looking lost. Horrible atmosphere , no wonder they are offering cheap deals. The management either haven't a clue or don't care about running a hotel properly . In fairness, the food was decent and a good portion but when it's slapped down on the table it leaves a sour taste in the mouth. I don't think anyone would ever come back, we certainly won't be. Also, the room we were given was a mile away from the lift and above the main road. Never got a winks sleep all night due to party goers and traffic. Informed receptionist next day and was smartly told it would be quieter tonight. I asked to change room and she reluctantly agreed. Customer service in this country is non existent . Upon checkout we expected to be asked how was our stay. They never even bothered to ask. Sadly I think this hotel will be in trouble down the line, avoid if you want to enjoy Kilkenny.”

We had a wonderful stay and your staff were of the highest order. They were mannerly and courteous at all times which made our stay more enjoyable Can we give a special mention to Sophia who looked after us for our evening meal on Wednesday. She went out of her way to make the evening meal enjoyable and she was so mannerly she is a great credit to herself. Can you pass on our thanks to her. Our room was big and very clean, very comfortable beds and an excellent breakfast in the restaurant, which is designed to keep in mind, the history of Kilkenny castle. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and very efficient and professional in their duties. Our dinner was beautiful and there is a big car park to the rear of the hotel which is free for guests. This hotel is very central to everything in Kilkenny, an ideal location for any trip.”

“The lovely lady on reception when we checked in Sunday afternoon should be an ambassador for Kilkenny.., and the hotel! Such a positive first impression, and we subsequently really enjoyed our stay. Great breakfast, very comfy room and generally very positive. We were late bookers, and our room was overlooking the alleyway to the carpark and the pub next door was playing a constant diet of country and Irish music, hence the 4 instead of 5 stars! :-) Seriously though, lovely place and highly recommended!! Oh - the 11.00 breakfast deadline is a winner!!! Nothing worse than having to rush in the morning for a bite, and the later deadline here was a very welcome surprise!!!”

Spoke to Jean, were moved to diff area of hotel but same noise still going at 2am. Had dinner in the hotel, not in a dining room but the bar????, grumpy waiter, service & "meal" awful. Valentines nite No effort made by the hotel management. Breakfast greeting,- "name, do you know what you want to eat or do you want a menu"?????”

“Booked the 2nt 2 breakfast with one evening meal of 2 courses plus tea/coffee. Checking in was good, room basic, but comfortable and clean, bathroom was disappointing. We decided to have the dinner on the first night. Very basic menu and the food and service wasn't good. We asked for the bill so we could pay for the wine, when we noticed that the "complimentary coffee" was charged for. When we pointed this out the bar staff said we should pay for it, but when we queried this and they checked with reception, they stated that on this occasion they wouldn't charge for the coffee. This seemed like they were doing us a favour. I went to reception to clear up the situation, when the same member of bar staff became very irate, telling me to "pack your bag and get out, that you have been trouble all evening". We felt very uncomfortable, but stayed the night. The next morning the breakfast was ok and service was good. We decided that we didn't want to stay the second night and agreed with the receptionist to have a refund for one nights room rate. This receptionist was very dry and did not wish us well on our way. I realise that this started over an error about the coffee on the hotel's part, but how it ended was very poor customer service. Obviously staff should be made aware of the booking conditions and what is included. Unfortunately I could not recommend this hotel to anyone.”

You had to come out the front door of the hotel and enter the bar or restaurant through another door on the Main Street. We were lucky it wasn’t raining. The ramp here is a few inches to short to be a ramp. Then I had to get out and walk up the steps to the restaurant. So there was actually no wheelchair access to the restaurant. We would definitely go back though. Staff were lovely and helpful. Food was gorgeous, room was lovely and all very reasonably priced.”

There was small fans in the rooms but the round windows were screwed shut so no ventilation and it was reported but not amended for room 36 . Barring the heat and ventilation issue the hotel has great location friendly clean and has a good breakfast if included in your deal .”

The glass doors into reception have so many stickers on them it doesn't look very inviting. Not all staff members followed the current guidelines for COVID-19 i.e. either to socially distance or wear a mask/face covering when unable to social distance. In general there was a lot of staff on duty during breakfast & in the bar but not all were aware or vigilant that customers should come before there social chats.”

The room was clean, tidy and peaceful. We had the evening meal the first night. It was very tasty. The French and Portuguese waiters were very helpful and very keen to make our stay satisfying. The dining hall was a Mexican style. The breakfast on both mornings was top notch. The Manager allowed us to leave our car in the car park all day on the date we checked out. The standard of breakfast was very poor, the hot plate was cold you had to heat your breakfast in the microwave, the selection of cereals was from lidl/aldi and was poor. The bar was dirty but the staff where friendly. Overall it was a very dissappointing stay and i would not go back the Kilford Arms again.”

It had one double bed and four single beds and two portable TV's. It was clean with lots of hangers which makes a change. Small hairdryer on the wall and soap and shower gel dispensers. The bars were excellent. Great choice as to which one to drink in and a nightclub, didn't go to that so can't comment but entrance was free for guests. The breakfast was carvery with excellent helpful staff again. The hotel is just a stones throw away from a lovely shopping centre. In essence yep we will be back”

Plenty of milk for the tea and coffee. WELL DONE!! too many hotels are mean with the milk. Breakfast was nice and service was good. Corridors were a tad noisy at night, probably due to the location of the hotel in Kilkenny City, however there was no noise from the nightclub or pub downstairs or even the street. I would have given a higher rating but for the stuffy room and being woken up by other guests in the corridor. parking was off street and reasonably secure and location was ideal.”

“we stayed mid-week and we cannot recomend the Kilford more highly. Its almost in the centre of Kilkenny, a few minutes from the train station, and offered excellent value. The staff were really friendly and the service excellent. They also have a great late night bar with an excellent beer garden (if you smoke like us). Having said that, I know a lot of their weekend business is of the stag/hen variety and we noticed a few of these ariving as we left. However I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Kilford for a short break in the Marble City, just it might get a little ott at the weekend.”

The only fault i had with the hotel is after 12pm you could not get back into the hotel through the main entrance and had to use the door for the pub, this door was closed and on a dark street and i had to bang on the door and keep buzzing the bell for over 15 mins, I was own my own coming back to the hotel and this was a little bit scarey. Great value for money and will defo be booking with Lidl breaks in the future but not this Hotel.”

This is my only complaint as I really enjoyed my stay in the Kilford Arms.The hotel is very central to the castle, shopping area and all the night life and is situated very close to the bus and train station.”
